Description

Grade 9 Up–In Sewer Rats, Jim and his friends are part of a league of paintballers who play in the town's sewers. When a member of their team sabotages a match, her mates try to confront her. She runs into the tunnels when a rainstorm hits, and they must find her before the water rises. Suspense builds as Jim tries to overcome his fear in the drainpipes. In Chat Room, Linda, a quiet underclassman, strikes up conversations with a mysterious Cyrano in her school's new monitored chat room, only to find that her visions of the real Cyrano are far from the truth. Butcher hammers home warnings about online predators, and the chat dialogue is less than authentic with its complete sentences and absence of lingo. Real chatters will see past the façade, but the topic will generate some interest. With short chapters and written in an easy style, both books will appeal to reluctant readers. Adequate choices for heavily circulating paperback collections.–Delia Carruthers, Sunset Ridge Middle School, West Jordan, UT

This is a great book and my students love it. It really appeals to young adults. It rarely remains on the shelf.

Reviewed by Dale Screp (age 10) for Reader Views (6/07)"Sewer Rats" is the name of a secret club that Micky, Jim, and Lisa belong to. Every Saturday they play paintball games in the storm drainage system. Carter wants to join the secret club, but Lisa doesn't want him to join.Micky and Jim suspect that she is the one causing trouble when Carter is hurt, and they chase her. She runs away into the drainage system. A storm is coming and both know that if they don't get her out, she will drown when the rain water goes into the drain. This story is full of suspense and there were times I was holding my breath while reading. Jim is afraid and I can relate to him, because I also am afraid of the water in the drain."Sewer Rats" is an exciting book and I will read it again. Even if I know the story, it is still a book I will read again.Book received free of charge

The book Sewer Rats is a nice good book. I would recommend this book to middle schoolers. The book is good for boys and so girls. I would recommend this book to friend but make sure they read the back of the book to see if they like it. The book has lots of scenes for boys.In the Sewer Rats story they love to have fun. They love to play paintball after school. They love to hang out in the sewer by the wast in the morning and after school. There is girl named lisa she is mean she hit a boy. The end of the book is dangerous attempted save someone will they survive?
